Ss. John Neumann and Maria Goretti Catholic High School is a secondary school of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school itself is located in the heart of South Philadelphia, and it provides a Catholic education to over 1,000 male and female students each year. This co-educational institution is the product of two single sex high schools (St. John Neumann and St. Maria Goretti High Schools) merging together in 2004. Both have a long-standing tradition in this area, shaping the values of and providing countless opportunities for every student who has passed through these halls.
The mission of Neumann-Goretti is to produce young adults who, equipped with a solid academic and social background, as well as the teachings of the Catholic Church, are prepared to take their rightful place in the Church and society at large. Neumann-Goretti is the only co-educational Catholic High School in the area to offer Six Advanced Placement courses in the following subjects in the following subjects: Art, U.S. History, Calculus, English, Italian, and U.S. Government and Politics. These courses are College Preparatory Classes that give students the opportunity to receive college credit for their work at the end of the year by taking the Advanced Placement Exam. Due to our solid academic programs and demanding courses, over 90% of our graduates go on to attend post-secondary schools. Our graduating classes on average receive over $6 million per year in total scholarship awards given by Colleges and Universities across America.
Neumann-Goretti students are highly encouraged to express themselves outside the classroom as part of shaping the students into well-rounded young adults who have a variety of talents and ambitions. Our Fine Arts Department offers four year programs in Art and Music which includes the Concert Band, String Orchestra, Jazz Band, and the Pep Band. Students may also join the Chorus and our Dance Program. A variety of extra-curricular activities are available to students such as Mathletes, the Community Service Corps, Cheerleading, Language Clubs, Student Council, and many more. Students interested in Journalism are invited to join our multi-award winning Crown Newspaper Staff or the Crystal Yearbook. We have several students who are invited into the National Honor Society because of their academic excellence and an outstanding display of community service.
Neumann-Goretti is a MOUS (Microsoft Office Users Specialist) Certified Testing Center. This is an extensive course on how to use Microsoft Office, and the certification is normally obtained on the college level. We also provide the Hospitality Program in association with Community College, The Academy of Process Technology presented by Sunoco, and Kinesiology as an elective for our students.
Our students, faculty, and administration love the strong sense of family and community at this neighborhood school. We hope that interested prospects would choose to join the Neumann-Goretti family, and help continue on the tradition and the pride of the Saints.
