Green Acres School in Rockville, MD, is a coeducational day school enrolling 320 students in PK – Grade 8. Green Acres offers an intentional model of progressive education. Founded in 1934, all of our work with children is purposeful: we carefully consider research and experience to develop an academically challenging, age appropriate program that is based on child development and fosters the cognitive, social/emotional, physical and creative growth of children. In short, we offer a solid program that reinforces the habits of learning that lead to success in secondary school and beyond. Working in small classes, students learn to think critically and solve problems through hands-on experiences. Learning at Green Acres occurs both indoors and out on our 15 acre wooded campus, with newly renovated classroom buildings (including state-of-the-art science labs), many sports & play areas, and a stream and pond. Lessons are integrated across academic and the fine arts subjects, including regular infusion of technology. There are two computer classrooms and laptops available for grades 4 – 8. The arts offerings include general art, ceramics, chorus, creative movement, drama, handbells, music, musical theater, and photography. Students have three to four physical education classes per week as well as an all-inclusive middle school athletics program with teams in soccer, basketball, softball, track and lacrosse. Cooking enhances the social studies and math programs in our teaching kitchen. Community service opportunities and traditions are in all grades. There are frequent day field trips in all grades and overnight experiences in grades 3 – 8. After-school arts and enrichment programs are also available.

Our students are happy, comfortable children who are excited to come to school each day. They are creative, independent thinkers who meet academic challenges enthusiastically and delight in working with others to solve problems. At graduation, our students are well-rounded teenagers sought by high schools and colleges for their skills, leadership, confidence and kindness.
