Master of Education in Literacy Studies - Multiple Literacies: Critical Perspectives in Education and Master of Education in Equity and Diversity in Educational Settings

Literacy in contemporary society is undergoing change as a result of social, cultural, economic and technological practices and advances. As a result of these changes, literacy encompasses more than ways of reading and writing. This master’s program places special emphasis on the many literacies used in modern society and assumes a critical perspective about relationships between literacies and empowerment in a multicultural and pluralistic world. The program is intended for the practicing educator and is a total of 40 credits, with a comprehensive examination at the end of the program.

Master of Education in Equity and Diversity in Educational Settings

The master’s program in Equity and Diversity in Educational Settings (EDES) offers an opportunity to focus advanced study on the use of inclusive teaching methods to serve the diverse learners who comprise today’s classrooms. This program allows teachers to enhance their pedagogical knowledge, skills and dispositions through teaching subject matter in a manner that accommodates for varied student backgrounds. Multiple types of learning differences will be addressed throughout the program’s coursework, with special attention to learner characteristics as they might relate to gender, language, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status and exceptionality.
