SCHOOL COMMUNITY
The American School of Bombay (ASB) was founded in 1981 as an independent, coeducational day school housed at the American Consulate in downtown Mumbai, Our current facility is located in the northern suburbs of the city, the school will be embarking on a 4 million dollar building expansion project that will include additional science, music, and general classrooms and a state of art physical education facility. The project will be completed for the start of the school in September 2007.

The school offers an educational program from Pre-K through grade 12 for students from over 43 nationalities. The student population of 560 is comprised of 28% American, 23% European, 21% from the Indian Subcontinent, and 28% from other nationalities corporations, NGO's, and government agencies.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
The American School of Bombay follows a college preparatory curriculum that culminates with an American high school diploma. The school offers a Pre-IB Program in grades 9 and 10 and the full IB Diploma Program in grades 11 and 12. The Diploma Program is demanding pre-university course of study that prepares students for the academic challenges of higher education allowing them access to the world's leading universities.

Depending on needs and availability, the school offers Advanced Placement courses. Last year we offered AP Calculus, AP Spanish, and AP English. In addition, AP Chemistry was taken as an online course.

TECHNOLOGY
ASB is proud to be a leader in the use of information technology to enhance students' educational experiences. All students in grades 6 through 12 own a Tablet PC. We believe that by using technology appropriately, students are more highly engaged in their own education, have increased opportunities to develop higher order thinking skills, and are better prepared to participate in a world where technological fluency is essential.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
ASB's international setting offers a rich array of opportunities for intercultural experiences. The South Asian Inter-School Association (SAISA) provides our student athletes the opportunity to compete in varsity level athletic competition with international schools from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Students also participate in Model United Nations, International Schools Theater Association (ISTA) and international choral and instrumental concerts.

In addition, our after school activity program allows students of all ages the opportunity to participate in a range of activities from wall climbing, gymnastics, taekwondo, to pottery, chess and choir.

Community service activities are an integral part of the school. Students work with local schools, charitable organizations, and NGO's to provide appropriate support and/or expertise. Our week without walls Program are weeklong trips designed to provide students with cross-cultural, service, and physically challenging experiences. This year the juniors and the seniors went on separate trips to Rishikesh at the foothills of the Indian Himalayas.
