The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Physical Therapy is committed to educating students to become outstanding clinicians and leaders in the field of physical therapy. The physical therapy program at UAB has a 40 year history of excellence, with a top 25 ranking in U.S. News and World Report for the past decade.

UAB offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy entry-level clinical degree. The faculty consists of highly qualified individuals known nationally for leadership in physical therapy education, service, research, and clinical expertise. Students are trained and encouraged to be evidence-based clinicians, sensitive to the evolving concept of comprehensive health care. Graduates of the UAB physical therapy program are prepared to interact with other health professionals in meeting the changing health needs of society.

The Department of Physical Therapy is housed in The School of Health Professions, a new state of the art facility with student laboratories and lecture halls providing an optimal learning environment. Faculty research laboratories are focused on clinically relevant studies of human motion and exercise physiology.

UAB encompasses 82 city blocks and has an overall student enrollment of more than 18,000 graduate and undergraduate students. UAB is home to a world renowned health care complex and more than 70 research centers. Physical therapy students and faculty participate in a variety of education and research endeavors throughout the UAB campus in collaboration with research centers such as the Center for Aging, the Injury Control Research Center, and other clinical specialty areas. Currently, UAB ranks among the top 20 universities in funding from the National Institutes of Health, earning more than $470 million per year in contract and grant support, and the School of Health Professions is consistently one of the top two US health professions schools receiving NIH funding.

Birmingham, the largest city in Alabama, is classic southern charm and hospitality. The vibrant, beautiful city is nestled in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and serves up nationally recognized dining, shopping and entertainment, world class attractions, events and many other things to see and do.
