History
Founded in 1854 by land speculators, Omaha was incorporated as a city in 1897. Omaha, named after an American Indian Tribe, means "those going against the wind or current"- Access Genealogy Indian Tribal Records. Omahans continue to live up to the name.

Downtown Omaha continues to sizzle with billions of dolars being invested into new developments. A new $22 milion one-of-a-kind pedestrian bridge is S-curving its way across the Missouri River. When complete, in November of 2008, it is expected to be one of the longest pedestrian bridges ever built, and connect nearly 105 miles of trails. In addition, a $2 millions art-filled plaza will be at the base of the bridge. Imagine 16 1/2 foot tall grass blowing in the breeze but with a high tech twist. This fiber optic wave sculpture is being designed by Japanese artist Makoto Dei Watanable. The plaza will also include a dancing water display. 26 water jets shooting into the air allowing children to run through them during the day, at night this unique fountain turns into a colorful light display.

Boys Town's 900-acre campus continues to provide necessary assistance to at-risk children and families from across the nation. The village rests comfortably in west Omaha with 70 homes that care for more than 700 children a year. Boys Town also offers visitors a unique journey through their past in the Hall of History where actor Spencer Tracy's Academy Award for his role in the movie "Boys Town" is displayed. The Dowd Cahpel serves as a shrine to Boys Town founder Father Flanagan; you can also visit his original home which is maintained on the campus.
