New York - An Introduction

10th Apr, 2009 | Source : Newsweek Showcase

As a political, cultural and economic leader in our nation, New York provides residents a spirit and energy that is difficult to match. Whether you're in the market for urban loft apartments or charming garden apartments in the countryside, New York has what it takes to be your new home. With the Adirondack Mountains to the east, Niagara Falls to the west and the hustle and bustle of the world financial capital of New York City, there is a unique contrast when it comes to New Yorker's lifestyles and landscapes they call home.

With an estimated population of over 19 million residents, New York is the third largest state in population after California and Texas.

Because a significant majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. While the state is best known for New York City's urban atmosphere, especially Manhattan's skyscrapers, most of the state is in fact dominated by farms, forests, rivers, mountains, and lakes.
