Move to Missouri

"The Show Me State" is considered by most inhabitants to be a Midwestern state, although it has many Southern cultural influences. Missouri has two major metropolitan areas, St. Louis and Kansas City. Missouri's border physically touches a total of eight different states. It is bounded on the north by Iowa; on the east, across the Mississippi River, by Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee; on the south by Arkansas; and on the west by Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska (the latter across the Missouri River.) The Mississippi and Missouri rivers are the two large rivers which flow through this state.

Missouri has a median home price of $108,000. It consistently ranks below the national average in costs for housing, transportation, food and utilities. Personal income is taxed in 10 different earning brackets, ranging from 1.5% to 6.0%. Missouri's sales tax rate for most items is 4.225%.

Here, an array of housing styles and structures are available in a broad range of prices, with housing costs at 20% below the national average. From affordable starter homes to privately-gated estates and manors, neighborhoods throughout the state's many family-oriented communities offer a rewarding lifestyle for people of all ages. Missouri communities have plenty of open space for parkland and outdoor recreation, housing selections available in a wide range of prices and a community focus on the quality of education.

Missouri's economy is diversified into a variety of industries. Manufacturing, retail and agriculture are all significant components. Leading products include automobiles, beer and other bottled beverages, and defense & aerospace technology. However, it is the service industries, of which tourism is a leading figure, that provide more income and jobs than any other sector. There are numerous junior colleges, trade schools, church universities and private universities in the state including Saint Louis University and Washington University in St. Louis.

No matter where one chooses to reside in Missouri, the state is filled with a plethora of cultural, recreational and employment opportunities. Whether you are here to raise a family, retire, pursue an education or launch a new career, discovering Missouri's many unique destinations and attractions will prove to be exciting. With wooded bluffs and deep valleys, Missouri's natural areas are one of its best-kept secrets. Enjoy canoeing and fishing on Missouri's picturesque rivers and streams or explore the state's sparkling springs and hidden caves. Tourist and residents alike are drawn to Missouri's numerous attractions, located all over the state. Popular sites include the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, the country music of Branson, Mark Twain's boyhood home in Hannibal and the Harry Truman home and library in Independence. Not all of Missouri's attractions are man-made, though; of equal interest is the natural beauty of the Ozark region, numerous lakes and great rivers.

Missouri experiences cool to cold winters and long, hot summers. Due to its location in the interior United States, Missouri often experiences extremes in temperatures. During the fall months in Missouri expect bright sunny days and crisp nights with just the right amount of rainfall.
