Florida Air Academy provides unique opportunities

Florida Air Academy (FAA) in Melbourne, is unique among Florida boarding schools. Cadets at FAA have the opportunity to get a first-rate education geared to the learning styles of young men and make friends from around the world. The school is open to young men in grades 6 through 12.

With an international reputation, FAA cadets come from about 30 countries and throughout the United States. Approximately half of the Academy’s students come from Florida.

Part of the draw to FAA is the quality of the educational staff. All instructors are State Certified and teach in their field of expertise. Many also have a Masters or Doctorate degree.

In addition to traditional educational opportunities the students receive leadership training, an emphasis on community service, and an opportunity for a variety of other activities including flight training, art, drama, public speaking, sports, local and international field trips. All Cadets participate in at least one year of Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC).

“If you want an opportunity to be a leader and an opportunity to succeed, there is no better place to go than Florida Air Academy,” according to Eric Franklin, Cadet Wing Commander. “Another big difference here is the staff and teachers. They are really there for you when you need them … mornings, afternoon, whenever … they always have time for you.”

Students at Florida Air Academy benefit from small class sizes and individualized attention that ensure each student works up to his potential and gets the additional support needed to be successful. The average class size is 16 students.

Classes at FAA are provided on various levels to meet the needs of the Cadets. While all classes prepare students for college, the honors and advanced placement programs are designed to challenge academically talented and motivated students. An extensive computer curriculum is also offered.

FAA hosts the largest flight training program in the world for secondary students. Florida Air Academy works in cooperation with Florida Institute of Technology to provide a course designed to teach young men all the skills they need to become pilots.

The Cadets learn to fly in FAA’s state-of-the-art 4-seat Piper Warrior III, or one of 30 other aircraft available to them.

Florida Air Academy has a very strong athletic program, which offers opportunities throughout the year in club or competition sports. Sports offered include basketball (2003 State Champions), football, weightlifting, baseball, soccer, tennis, golf, track and field, swimming, volleyball, SCUBA, and surfing.

FAA has three special teams that are invited to perform throughout the Southeastern United States. The Award winning Falcon Drum and Bugle Corps is highly sought after, as are the Drill Team and Color Guard.

Florida Air Academy is located in Melbourne on Florida’s Space Coast and is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Florida Council of Independent Schools.
