DSU has two masters at a distance:

The Master of Science in Computer Education and Technology (MSCET) is an educational technology degree that prepares educators to integrate computers into the teaching and learning process.
Focus: MSCET focuses on the role and application of technology to engage learners, support teaching, and design, evaluate and deliver instruction in both the classroom and online learning environment. The program combines a highly technological environment with a project-based curriculum.
Duration: 36 cr. hrs. (including the opportunity to specialize in technical systems or distance education.). Full time students can complete the degree in four semesters. Part-time students average 2 ½ years.

The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) prepares graduates for leadership positions in the information technology field. The program combines the technical foundations of computer science with key management concepts.
Focus: MSIS focuses on the integration of IT with business problems and applications, enabling information systems professionals to understand both technology and business. Students choose a three-course specialization (data management, e-commerce, or networking), and complete an integrated implementation project.
Duration: 30 credit hours (+ up to 12 credit hours of support courses for entering students who lack required knowledge prerequisites). Full time students can complete the degree in four semesters. Part-time students average 2 ½ years.

Degree: Masters

FAQ:

  1. How are the courses delivered?
MSCET and MSIS courses are delivered using a variety of instructional delivery methods: on site classroom delivery; interactive video-conferencing at multiple sites in South Dakota; and Internet, using a variety of desktop technologies, including a combination of both live and/or encoded streaming videos of classes, interactive course web boards, course web sites, and e-mail. All courses are web-enhanced.
  2. Is there a residency requirement?
Both programs have minimal residency requirements. MSCET requires a one-week summer residency for intensive hands-on activities for two required courses and one elective. MSIS requires a lab intensive weekend for one required course and two networking specialization courses.
  3. What are the admission requirements?
We require a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university and evidence of potential to succeed, which includes: 2.75 undergraduate GPA; satisfactory score on the GRE or waiver based upon specified criterion; and demonstrated knowledge in the discipline (program defined). International students must have: equivalent of a four-year baccalaureate; minimum 550 (or equivalent CBT) on TOEFL; and financial sustainability.
  4. What is the cost?
Internet courses cost $216/cr. hr. Costs are established by the BOR and can be changed.
  5. What are the application deadlines?
Applications should be received 30 days prior to the start of the entry semester (90 days for international students).
