THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION at East Carolina University is one of only four programs nationwide recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for developing "cutting edge programs that will provide powerful examples for others."
The College of Education is one of only three schools nationwide to receive the 2002 Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Teacher Education from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
And when the State Board of Education evaluated North Carolina's teacher education programs in 2002, none ranked higher than East Carolina's.
East Carolina University trains more professionals for North Carolina schools than any other university. Graduates of ECU's College of Education have been recognized as Teachers of the Year at the local, state, and national level. The college is very active in developing Internet-based professional development and degree programs. Currently, more than 125 distance-education courses are offered totally or partially online each semester, helping teachers meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
