The Henry B. Tippie School of Management

The Tippie Advantage

There are many characteristics that contribute to the quality of the Tippie MBA including a flexible curriculum and great placement results. But, here are a few of the attributes that set Tippie apart.

Students in Galleria

A Personal Touch. At Tippie, you will never be just a face in the crowd. You will form relationships with classmates, faculty, and staff that will continue long after your formal education is complete. We are one of the smallest ranked programs, but the real difference is our attitude and belief in providing a program that meets individual needs.

Reputation. The Tippie School of Management is nationally and internationally recognized for its quality. We attract the best and brightest students from around the world to our program. While at Tippie, students enhance their knowledge of business fundamentals and further their professional development. The end result is successful graduates that are tomorrow's business leaders.

Environment. Iowa City has a cosmopolitan atmosphere and rich culture, which contributed to the city's selection as one of the nation's best "small cities." Enjoy Big Ten athletics, world-class cultural events, theaters, museums, ethnic restaurants, and parks while being within easy driving distance of major metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, and Kansas City.

The Tippie MBA Program

Students complete 26 required credits, 12 concentration credits, and 22 credits of elective work. Elective credits allow students to gain depth in the concentration area, to complete a second concentration, or to build breadth in several areas of business.

Admission

The Tippie MBA seeks candidates who have clearly demonstrated strong academic ability and the potential for success in a professional environment. Factors considered in the review process include:

Academic Background. In addition to final results or cumulative grade point average (GPA), we consider the difficulty of the major completed and the reputation of the institution. We do not require a specific minimum GPA. However, last year's class average was 3.3.

Standardized Tests. GMAT: All candidates must submit a GMAT score. We do not require a specific minimum score, however, last year's median score was 640. TOEFL: Candidates from countries where English is not the native language must submit a TOEFL score. The minimum acceptable score is 250 (computer test) or 600 (paper test).

Work Experience. Professional work experience is required. A minimum of two years of full-time work experience after completion of the bachelor's degree is recommended. Successful applicants typically have three to five years of work experience.

Leadership. Evidence of leadership ability is important in demonstrating the candidate's potential for contributing to the learning environment. Ideal candidates have clear records of leadership in school, work and the community.

Admission Interview. An interview is required before an admission offer is made. The interview may take place on-campus as part of a campus visit or via a telephone interview. Interviews are also available with Tippie representatives who may be traveling to your city.
