Founded on the dreams of the Sister of Mercy in 1908, Georgian Court University today makes it possible for thousands of students, of all faiths and backgrounds, to realize their own dreams of a high-quality, affordable private education. Georgian Court is the only Mercy University in New Jersey and one of only two Catholic universities in the state. This means that the Mercy core values of respect, integrity, compassion, service, and justice are a meaningful part of a Georgian Court University education.
Deeply rooted in a liberal arts curriculum and anchored by the core values, GCU offers a personalized and supportive learning environment within a technologically advanced university setting. With an average class size of just 14, GCU students work side-by-side with dedicated professors. Faculty members are leaders in their respective fields, including scientific researchers, school administrators, musicians, a world-renowned expert in criminal justice, and leaders in business and industry.
Georgian Court University students can choose from over 30 major programs, offered through two highly regarded colleges. The GCU Women's College is dedicated to the success of women, both personally and professionally. The emphasis is on building strong women leaders who will excel in their career, contribute to the greater good of their community, state and nation; and can approach any obstacle with confidence. It's no surprise to us that studies show students at women's colleges like GCU develop high self esteem, participate fully in and out of the classroom, and enjoy success in their careers.
University College encompasses the coeducational undergraduate, graduate, and certificate offerings at GCU. University College caters to men and women with busy schedules. Evening, weekend, and accelerated classes, as well as a variety of convenient locations are all part of the University College advantage. Nine graduate programs prepare students for successful careers. Programs are offered in the evening at the GCU main campus in Lakewood, and during the day and evening at GCU at Woodbridge, GCU at Cumberland County College, and GCU at the New Jersey Coastal Communiversity in Wall.
GCU's historic 155-acre campus is located on Lake Carasaljo near the popular Jersey Shore in Lakewood, New Jersey. Famous architecture, magnificent gardens, and a location midway between New York City and Philadelphia make GCU an exciting place to learn and live.
The GCU Lions are fierce competitors in seven NCAA Division II and CACC sports, including Basketball, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Volleyball. The environmentally friendly Wellness Center and Complex is on target to transform the GCU campus in 2008. Plans include state-of-the-art athletic fields and an eight-lane track, tennis courts, exercise facilities, professional dance studios, spaces for reflection and gathering, and a university bookstore.
