Valparaiso University School of Law

The real value of a Valpo Law degree is the rigorous, yet personalized education in a small school setting that blends the theory and practice of law, good communication, and integrity. It is these distinctive strengths that reflect our commitment to excellence and result in graduates who are not only good lawyers, but good people.

A few special highlights of Valpo Law include our extensive legal communication program, our clinic and externship programs, our location, our student body, and the diversity of practice among our alumni.

We consider analytical thinking and clear and clean communication to be the prerequisites to success in the world of law. Consequently, we stress analysis and theory in every curricular offering. We also require research and writing courses in all three years of law school.

We operate our own law firm - the Law Clinic - in which students carry their own caseload. These are not hypothetical cases out of some book. Each Clinic student handles live cases with real clients, from intake through final disposition. The Clinic, along with our trial skills program and externship opportunities, affords very practical experiences.

Our location affords our students ready access to every kind of legal practice, ranging from the world's large law firms of Chicago to the general practitioners of Midwestern home towns.

Each year, we assemble our entering class from campuses across the country and around the globe. The relationships they, as law students, form with their faculty last throughout their professional lives. Visit us at www.valpo.edu/law.

The School of Law is one of six colleges on the campus of Valparaiso University, the nation's only independent Lutheran university. "Valpo" has a distinctively Christian identity, where both faith and reason are essential and complementary.

Ranked #1 for quality in the Midwest and a "Great School at a Great Price" by U.S. News and World Report, Valpo offers 60 areas of study in both liberal arts and professional studies. The University has a long tradition of combining professional colleges with a strong commitment to the values and broadening experiences of the liberal arts. Programs are structured to provide a solid base of exploration in various fields, while offering students the freedom to develop depth in a specific interest.

The University's 3,600 students represent most states and more than forty countries. Nestled in a residential community of 26,000, activities outside the classroom form an important part of campus life, as more than 66 percent of Valpo students live on campus. Approximately 100 extracurricular and co-curricular programs are open to all, including the campus radio station, Pre-Medical Society, International Student Association, and various NCAA Division I intercollegiate and intramural sports teams for men and women. Approximately 35 percent of students are members of the University's eight national fraternities and seven national sororities.

Valparaiso University is committed to providing its students a strong Lutheran heritage, an honors college, and exceptional undergraduate research and intern opportunities. Upon graduation, students achieve high job placement rates and go on to attend highly respected graduate schools. Call us at 1-888-GoValpo.
