Box Hill School is a small community of 350 girls and boys aged 11 to 18.
While internationalism has always been important the school is very much part of the village of Mickleham, occupying a beautiful site in Surrey Green Belt countryside. The original Victorian mansion stands in 40 acres of grounds.
Its educational ideals and practice are designed to get the best out of each pupil. The school follows the philosophy of Dr Kurt Hahn, founder of Gordonstoun in Scotland. While placing academic work at the heart of a school, Hahn stressed the importance of all-round education as a preparation for life. Central to Hahn’s ethos is the spirit of ‘having a go’, whether it be doing one’s best in academic work, performing on stage, scaling the climbing wall, or taking part in expeditions at home or abroad.
We pride ourselves on a strong academic tradition based on small classes, good tutoring and a flexible curriculum that enables pupils to develop their own talents and interests. A varied activities programme includes team games but also individual sports, service to the community, and expedition training to enable over eighty pupils to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
