The University of Texas at El Paso

Transcending Borders

The College of Business Administration at the University of Texas at El Paso has the distinct geographic advantage of offering an MBA program within the largest metropolitan area on the U.S./Mexico border and the largest binational community in the Western hemisphere. Our multilingual and multicultural community, featuring over five decades of expertise in manufacturing, logistics, international commerce and finance, uniquely positions the UTEP College of Business Administration to offer undergraduate, masters, and PhD programs for the global enterprise leaders of tomorrow. Today, the MBA program serves a diverse population of over 400 students from more than 20 countries.

In 2008, UTEP’s MBA programs were ranked 6th in the nation for Hispanic students by HispanicBusiness magazine. This follows a directed effort to develop a competitive MBA curriculum, expand outreach and recruitment efforts, support students success, and diversify the faculty. In keeping with our mission of excellence and access, UTEP’s MBA programs combine quality management education and affordability.

UTEP currently offers two MBA options that facilitate a management education for working professionals and full-time students alike. The Flexible MBA allows students to customize their course load. Students can complete their MBA requirements through our on-campus evening classes. The Accelerated MBA is a fast-track, cohort style MBA option that combines a dynamic MBA curriculum with the convenience of off-campus class sites throughout the region. AMBA students can complete their MBA degree in just two years by attending class only twice a week.

In 2009, two dynamic new programs will be launched. The International MBA is a full-time program that will deliver an interdisciplinary curriculum in a bilingual format and a global setting. English and Spanish speaking students will build on their language skills through an instructional component of Chinese. An international faculty core will bring their industry and research expertise to the classroom. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to expand their classroom through a series of international travel and research engagements. Assistantships will be provided for all accepted students. The International MBA will be launched Fall 2009. The application deadline is February 1, 2009.

The Executive MBA is an 18-month program designed for business leaders with at least 8 years of managerial experience. This program will bring together faculty and students with decades of combined experience in global enterprises. EMBA courses will be offered twice monthly, on Friday and Saturday. Students will be in class for 8 hours each day, with two courses being offered every 5 weeks. Additionally, the EMBA will include an International Research Course. The EMBA will be launched in Spring 2009. The application deadline is January 15, 2009.
