Southern California Reproductive Center on The Cutting-Edge of Infertility Treatment and Reproductive Success
The field of assisted reproductive technology (ART) continues to gain recognition for the benefits it provides to patients that have unexplained infertility, repeated pregnancy loss, or a need for genetic and X-chromosome determination. Expert application of advanced techniques like Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), consistently demonstrate improved fertility results. Southern California Reproductive Center (SCRC) is a leader in reproductive technology and services. Their physicians and staff are world-class and have the experience, insight and sensitivity to get to the heart of the problem quickly and create results.
The awareness of the impacts of such techniques as PGD are gaining recognition in both the clinical and research environments. Results reported at the most recent meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) indicate that PGD-screened patients have higher implantation rates, higher pregnancy rates, and lower pregnancy loss rates when compared to an age-matched group of non-PGD-screened patients. The implications are that women with challenges such as advanced maternal age (>35 years), unexplained infertility, repeated pregnancy loss, and a need for genetic and X-chromosome determination can take advantage of the new opportunities available. It is evident that PGD has achieved a significant increase in acceptance and has become a new way for positive fertility results to be achieved.
The history and science of PGD are both fascinating and powerful. PGD was first used in England in 1989, but the process has been refined greatly since its early stages. It involves the removal/ biopsy of a single cell from early cleavage stage embryos. The nuclear material from that cell is evaluated via fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) or polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PGD is used to evaluate the genetic makeup for chromosomal abnormalities (e.g., Down’s Syndrome, translocations, X-linked disorders) or screen for the presence of genetic disorders (e.g., Cystic Fibrosis, Tay-Sachs).
Southern California Reproductive Center is directed by internationally-renowned physicians, Mark Surrey, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., F.A.C.S. and Hal Danzer, M.D., and has a pioneering and expert scientific team led by David Hill, Ph.D., ELD. Together they are pushing the scientific frontier to define the next level of fertility opportunities available to patients. The entire staff recognizes that every individual is unique and, therefore, there is more than one way to approach the issue of fertility. The doctors are very aware that not every individual needs a high tech approach such as In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or PGD and will be constantly searching for the optimal fertility solution.
SCRC’s comprehensive and confidential services are provided in one convenient facility with physician services, a CAP accredited embryology laboratory, a CLIA licensed reference laboratory, onsite PGD analysis, and a federally certified surgery center. The physicians and staff at Southern California Reproductive Center are dedicated to making the quest for parenthood a wonderful experience by providing expert individualized services in a nurturing environment.
